It's a perfect meet-up spot for access to 2 amazing yrail systems. GEOREG BUSH PARK to the west and TERRY HERSHEY to the east. A couple of benches and shade. It's a great place for cardio types to park and get on it. I see people fishing here often, but I wouldn't recommend it... one slip.and your body may not be found for a while.

Yes, the two reservoirs of Barker and Addicks were built to offset the flooding of Buffalo Bayou downriver to keep areas like Downtown Houston and the Galleria areas from being flooded away. So, yes, the Army Corp of Engineers will release water off and on. The problem is that crazy developers became greedy and started building homes and Apts. INSIDE the two reservoirs, so yeah they'll flood when water is released. No one was ever supposed to live in a home INSIDE the reservoirs, so yes, your home will flood when water is released. So do your due diligence and MOVE to another, safer area to keep your home from flooding!!! It's not rocket science but more along the lines of earth's physics!!

About Barker Reservoir
Nestled within the vibrant landscape of Houston, Texas, Barker Reservoir is more than just a typical reservoir. It plays a pivotal role in flood control, particularly concerning the tumultuous waters of Buffalo Bayou. Constructed by the Army Corps of Engineers, Barker Reservoir, alongside its counterpart, Addicks Reservoir, serves to protect metropolitan areas like Downtown Houston by mitigating the risk of devastating floods. However, this area stands as a testament to both nature's beauty and its potential wrath—embodied by the reservoir's pivotal role during events like Hurricane Harvey in 2017. Beyond its functional importance, Barker Reservoir provides a picturesque backdrop where you can witness exotic birds swooping in to fish or people engaging in vigorous cardio activities. It's perfectly situated as a launch pad to explore two significant trail systems, Georeg Bush Park to the west and Terry Hershey Park to the east, making it a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Despite its allure, the reservoir's structural integrity has been a point of concern, with not all developments surrounding it being safe. This dual nature—of beauty and caution—defines the essence of Barker Reservoir. Venturing here means enjoying a serene environment with spots to relax under shaded benches, enlivened by the constant ballet of local wildlife. But it also requires an appreciation of the reservoir's significant, albeit complex, role in the region's environmental management. Whether you come for the trails, the potential sightseeing, or simply to immerse yourself in a piece of Houston's engineered landscape, Barker Reservoir offers a unique display of human ingenuity intertwined with nature's profound influence.
