Cedar Lake is one of the best lakes in Minneapolis. Slightly quieter than Bde Maka Ska and slightly less traffic noise in the walk. Difficult to navigate on the far side of the lake due to the construction but well maintained trails.

Not too difficult to find street parking, and you’re able to paddle far enough away from the beaches that you don’t hear any of the noise!

Fun lake to kayak. Some trash though which the city needs to clean up. Lots of nice beaches.
About Cedar Lake
Nestled in the heart of Minneapolis, Cedar Lake is a hidden gem that offers a tranquil retreat from the urban hustle and bustle. This serene body of water, surrounded by lush parks and natural landscapes, provides a perfect escape for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Cedar Lake may not boast the vibrant energy of its more popular twin, Bde Maka Ska, but it offers a peace and quiet that is increasingly hard to find in the city. Visitors often remark on the peaceful ambiance, which is enhanced by the gentle rustle of leaves and the soft chirping of birds. The lake's well-maintained trails are perfect for leisurely strolls or invigorating bike rides, offering excellent views that can make you forget you're in the heart of an urban environment. For those who enjoy water activities, Cedar Lake is a delightful spot for kayaking and canoeing. The expansive waters allow paddlers to drift far enough from the shore to enjoy a secluded experience away from beach noise. However, keep an eye out for some trash that occasionally mars the lake's pristine beauty—a reminder of the city's ongoing balance with nature. Cedar Lake's beaches are a particular favorite among families and sun-seekers. While some beaches, like the popular Hidden Beach, can get crowded during warm weekends, others offer a more relaxed atmosphere perfect for beachside picnics or a shady nap under the canopy of trees. With picnic tables and benches scattered around, you’ll find the perfect spot to settle in with a book or a group of friends. However, a note of caution—this is a place to savor nature, so leave the drinks at home, as alcohol is not permitted on the premises. Overall, Cedar Lake is a charming destination for those looking to unwind, explore, and immerse themselves in nature. Whether you're there for a day of kayaking, a calm afternoon walk, or a sunny picnic, Cedar Lake is an oasis of quiet reflection just moments from the city center. Make sure to bring your camera, as the peaceful vistas and abundant wildlife provide countless opportunities for stunning photos.
