Stayed at Squaw Lake which we have done several years now. We really like the Lake and river for fishing. The camping is adequate for what you pay. It's dry camping. What needs work is the camp hosts. They are very grumpy and not very welcoming to the newbie. In my day camp hosts were happy to be welcoming new people to their private heaven. Most people camping here in the winter are snowbirds and for the most part will not try rip you off so knocking on their RV doors at 7 asking for the permit is unnecessary.

We go here quite.often with our friends for the day or to camp. The only down side is the bathrooms are closed during the summer months. So we have to have someone with a camper with us!! Love it here. You can hear the coyotes howling at night it's really neat to hear.

It's a nice campground with water to cool off while experiencing 110° plus temperatures. The heat here isn't for sissy's that have a weak heart. Love all of the donkeys that freely roam throughout the campground.
About Senator Wash Reservoir
Nestled amid the rugged beauty of the California-Arizona border, Senator Wash Reservoir, known affectionately by locals as Squaw Lake, is a hidden gem for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. This off-the-beaten-path destination promises a unique mix of serene landscapes, wildlife encounters, and recreational activities that captivate the hearts of both seasoned campers and first-time visitors. Senator Wash Reservoir is renowned for its abundant fishing opportunities, making it a favorite among anglers seeking tranquility by the water's edge. The lake and the connecting river teem with a variety of fish, rewarding even the amateurs with a memorable catch. The appeal of the reservoir extends beyond fishing, offering the perfect backdrop for swimming, boating, and just relaxing with friends and family, especially in the warmer months when temperatures can soar. Camping at Senator Wash is a rustic experience, known as "dry camping" due to the lack of modern amenities like running water and electricity, though it means campers can experience the area in its natural state. The campground, with its idyllic setting, charming wildlife, and starry skies, provides an authentic outdoor experience that feels miles away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. However, visitors note the variability in camp host hospitality, ranging from exceptionally welcoming to somewhat less accommodating. The summer heat is a formidable presence, with temperatures frequently climbing above 110°F. Still, the challenge is part of the charm for those who embrace the rugged conditions. Lounging by the water, listening to the chorus of coyotes at night, and waking up to herds of wild burros wandering through the site are privileges that define the experience at this unique reservoir. Ultimately, a trip to Senator Wash Reservoir is more than just a visit; it's an immersion into a world where time seems to stand still, and nature's raw beauty offers complete serenity.
