This is a beautiful place to backpack. There are several established, dispersed campsites around the lake, however they are almost all for small, one-person tents.

Gorgeous hike and a peaceful place to camp. Not too many good spots right by the lake but there are decent options. A bit strenuous to get to but a doable hike for a first time backpacker (this was my first trip).

Excellent camping and swimming and the water especially after a great rain season is coooold and fantastic. However, I can see that the camping could be a bit annoying since it gets windy around the lake. There are a couple of V like funnels that funnel wind and noise around the lake but there are protected camping spaces which are really quite nice.
