If you don’t wear a life jacket someone gonna call the forest police on ya, so if you go paddle boarding or kayaking bring one. Minimal area to camp but it’s usually mellow there. Saw cranes and other cool birds. Overall beautiful view and nice spot.

Quiet. Very few camping spots on lake and they are small. I got lucky. I'm in a minivan and although the ride in was rough and long, I made it going slowly. It is worth the ride in. All kinds of birds and ducks that make the most beautiful sounds. Very large bees and flys. Shady with drops of sun among the large pines and birch trees.

Came with the a large youth group. Really great spot for large groups. Recommend securing permit if you want the experience to be private. Bring some extra blankets even at the end of May/early June (in the 30s at night).
About Carnero Lake
Nestled amidst the serene forests of Arizona, Carnero Lake is a true hidden gem for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts alike. As a small, quaint lake almost more of a reservoir, it offers an undisturbed escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The journey to reach Carnero Lake might require patience and a vehicle with decent clearance, but the rewards are well worth the effort. Perfect for birdwatching and nature photography, the area is teeming with diverse wildlife including cranes, ducks, deer, and even the majestic Bald Eagle. Carnero Lake is predominantly a lure and fly fishing destination, with its tranquil waters prohibiting motorized boats to maintain the peace. The primitive camping experience is enhanced by the soundscape of coyotes at night and the sight of a starlit sky above vast pines and birches. While the facilities are few—ensuring a more rugged and natural camping experience—it bolsters simplicity and self-sufficiency, ideal for those seeking solitude. For those who simply wish to marvel at nature, Carnero Lake also offers glimpses of captivating wildflowers and expansive views of Greens Peak. Nearby forest roads provide endless opportunities for exploration by foot or ATV, giving adventurers the chance to uncover more hidden spots and trails in the region. Be sure to pack essentials including warm clothing for the cold nights, a life jacket for kayaking adventures, and permits for larger group setups. Whether you're there to cast a line or set up camp under towering trees, Carnero Lake promises a refreshing retreat where the harmonies of nature create the perfect backdrop for reflection and exploration.
