Just started a new hobby;paddle boarding, so we just had to come here when we decided to camp in AZ. The weather was nice but the water is muddy for anyone who cares.

Upper and lower Lake Mary is one of the best fishing and kayaking spots in AZ. Great weather and more peaceful than most lakes. Ramadas, bathrooms, and grills are available. Crossing to the other side, there is foraging and beautiful wildlife.

We didn't catch anything but it was relaxing anyways. Lots of people kayaking and paddleboarding. However there was a lot of trash around. Picked up as much as we could.
About Upper Lake Mary
Upper Lake Mary, located in the scenic Coconino National Forest near Flagstaff, Arizona, is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts seeking adventure and tranquility. While it may not match the pristine clarity of a crystal mountain lake, its muddy waters are more than sufficient for a wide array of recreational activities. Kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing are favored pursuits, thanks to the spaciousness of this reservoir. Although water levels have been lower due to recent droughts, these conditions contribute to expanded beaches and ample space for paddlers. The lake's popularity among triathletes offers a unique twist to its recreational appeal, creating an ideal training ground for swimming endurance. The serene sunup and sundown periods make for particularly peaceful paddleboarding excursions. Amenities such as ramadas, grills, and bathrooms enhance visitor experience, although trash has been noted as a concern. Visitors are encouraged to partake in the Leave No Trace principles to preserve the lake's natural beauty. For those eager to extend their stay, camping is possible on the southern shore, only accessible by watercraft, lending a sense of remoteness to the overnight experience. The surrounding wooded areas invite exploration and foraging, with wildlife viewing opportunities adding to the lake's allure. Upper Lake Mary's appeal lies not only in its recreational offerings but in the sense of peaceful escape it provides, making it a cherished site for both Flagstaff locals and visitors alike.
