Reviews of Lake Upper lake mary

Just started a new hobby;paddle boarding, so we just had to come here when we decided to camp in AZ. The weather was nice but the water is muddy for anyone who cares.

Upper and lower Lake Mary is one of the best fishing and kayaking spots in AZ. Great weather and more peaceful than most lakes. Ramadas, bathrooms, and grills are available. Crossing to the other side, there is foraging and beautiful wildlife.

We didn't catch anything but it was relaxing anyways. Lots of people kayaking and paddleboarding. However there was a lot of trash around. Picked up as much as we could.

The only real water in the area. The paid beach access is worth it if you have kids. There's a boat launch- a paid day use. Boats are to stay between the buoys, so there is a safe swimming and paddleboarding area. Swimming the length of the lake is a popular triathlon training route. Triathletes bike Lake Mary Road, run the road, and swim Upper Lake Mary. If you're running a power boat, watch out for swimmers! At sunrise and sunset there will be few boats and the lake is ideal for stand up paddle boarding. A Flagstaff favorite activity is to load a canoe or paddleboard and head across the lake to camp on the southern shore. You aren't allowed to camp on the water, but you can set up camp in the woods near the shore. Read the forest service rules before you try this. There is no vehicle access to the southern shore of the lake. There are a few illegal two-tracks that people use (which used to be forest service roads), but it's a violation of the motor vehicle use rules to do this. Resist the temptation. Water quality is OK. The water is surface runoff from the forest and tends to be clean but muddy. A crystal mountain lake it is not. The lake has tended to be low in recent years, owing to the drought. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. There's more beach, and still plenty of water for boating.
