Nice little lake. Very few people out in the water which is nice.Caught and released a lot of bass. My friend limited on the trout. The drive up there is probably the deterrent. Blind curves, dirt roads, a few pot holes and you better hope no one is driving by on the opposite direction at those blind curves. Easy kayak launch and they have a pier you can fish out of if you want. I did see people walking around the lake so they could be in a more isolated spot to fish or sunbathe. I had a 4x4. It'd be borderline not recommended to go there if you have a vehicle that can't take the rough road.

Practically impossible to access since the road washed out. The only way to get in is through logging trails and it's terrible. The Lake is small, the fish are small. (Bass) Nice little Lake, clean campground. No running water, no electricity.

Note, this is based on a day trip with the goal of paddle boarding. Some may think I’m harshly rating Upper Letts Lake/Goat Mountain. Here are some of the pluses: very secluded, very quiet, which made for a peaceful experience. I thought it was beautiful and in some spots even breathtaking, despite the evidence of fire. Though we were camping we came across a couple spots with portable potties that I would describe as fairly clean given what they are and where they are. Minuses: poorly marked single lane forest roads. One dry pond. The lake itself was small. I didn’t end up paddle boarding but my friend did and was able to complete the perimeter of the lake in ~40 minutes. If the lake were more accessible i might be inclined to give it a 4-star rating. Yet, if the lake were more accessible, it would likely lose some of its hidden gem charm. If the challenging road doesn’t deter you, this may be worth a visit. Please be kind to the park; leave no trace of your visit!
About Upper Letts Lake
Nestled within the serene landscapes of Goat Mountain, Upper Letts Lake offers a secluded retreat for those seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Smaller in size but rich in natural beauty, this hidden gem serves up a range of outdoor activities amid its peaceful environment. The lake’s clear waters are perfect for catching bass or trout, while the small sandy beach provides a tranquil spot for sunbathing. Although the winding, rough roads may pose a challenge, the journey is a rewarding adventure for those with a spirit for exploration. Camping is a popular pastime here, with clean campgrounds and reasonable fees. However, amenities are basic—expect portable potties and bring your own water and electricity. For those who prefer paddling, the calm waters offer a serene experience, as evidenced by an easy 40-minute paddle boarding circuit. Despite the occasional evidence of past fires, the lake and its surroundings boast stunning vistas that make the effort to reach this remote location well worth it. So, if you’re up for a bit of off-road driving and seeking a location where nature’s tranquility reigns supreme, Upper Letts Lake might just be your ideal destination.
