Did the Cliff Lakes and Terrace Lake trail from AllTrails on a Thursday morning late in August. There's a spacious parking lot as soon as you turn in from the main road. I did see a bunch of vehicles later on too, but it gets very rocky at Cedar Lake. Very tough to stick to the trail once it went steep. Not maintained at all. The point where it turned from wide and flat to steep and narrow, some guys had parked their pickup truck, so I first didn't see the trail at all and went the complete wrong way and gained a lot of unnecessary distance and elevation. This is supposed to be a 3.8 mile, 675 ft hike. I ended up 5 miles and 1000 ft.

We absolutely love this lake. You have to have a 4WD to drive to it but most people walk it from the road or from Cedar Lake. In the winter time the lake freezes and it’s a great time to ice skate or walk on this beauty. Cliff Lakes South end has spectacular granite walls you can just stare at for a while. Hope you enjoy!

Great Place to Visit with the Family, they were able to get in the Lake and have fun. Hubby tried some fishing but to no avail, the road is very bumpy while heading up there so make sure you have a 4x4.
About Cliff Lake
Nestled amidst the rugged beauty of the Sierra Nevada mountains, Cliff Lake offers an adventurous escape for nature lovers and thrill-seekers alike. This enchanting destination can be accessed via a 3.8-mile hike starting from a spacious parking lot off the main road. The path leads hikers through a mix of wide tracks and challenging, rocky terrain, requiring a keen eye for trail markers. Though the hike includes steep and narrow sections, the payoff is more than worthwhile. At the southern end of Cliff Lake, adventurers are greeted with breathtaking granite walls perfect for admiration and photography. Despite the journey's potential challenges, including unmarked trails and rocky inclines, visitors are rewarded with the opportunity to swim in the lake’s crystal-clear waters or simply relax with family by its scenic shore. Fishing enthusiasts might need more than just luck, as success seems sparse, yet the serene backdrop creates an ideal atmosphere for patience and unwinding. Camping at Cliff Lake offers a rustic experience; campers report a "move as necessary" approach to enjoying the great outdoors, illustrated by using trucks equipped with sleeping accommodations. To truly appreciate the remote beauty of Cliff Lake, a vehicle with 4WD is recommended due to bumpy access roads leading to the lake. Whether for brief visits or extended stays, Cliff Lake is a magnificent setting to ensure memorable family outings and solitary retreats into nature.
