Not an ideal birding spot due to access issues. Good numbers of birds, but only viewable from public areas along FM-1766 which are few and far between. Expect to be challenged and possibly run off by plant security.

Private property, no trespassing. Cooling pond for the lignite burning power generating stations that supplied electricity to the aluminum company of America’s aluminum smelter. Nothing to see here
About Alcoa Lake
Nestled amidst industrial settings, Alcoa Lake presents itself as an enigma for visitors seeking natural beauty with a twist. While the presence of the aluminum smelter plant and its associated power station signals caution, there's an undeniable charm beneath the stars at dusk. This lake, primarily a cooling pond for the facility, offers surprisingly serene and peaceful stargazing opportunities despite restricted access. Alcoa Lake does not promise the typical recreational allure of more tourist-friendly lakes, yet for those interested in industrial history and the contrast of nature against development, it has its own story to tell. Bird watchers might not find it ideal due to limited access, but along FM-1766, you might still catch a glimpse of some avian life keeping distance from human activity. Overall, Alcoa Lake is more of an evocative landmark than a traditional destination, serving to remind us of the balance — or imbalance — between nature and industrial advancement.
