3-18-23 HEADLINE: Lake Wilma to be closed for 2023 trout season. Anglers who had hoped to fish for trout at Lake Wilma in Greene County will be out of luck this season. The lake, which is owned by the energy company CNX Resources, is being temporarily closed due to “ongoing operations.”

Use caution visiting. I was there on work related business, drawing water from the lake in large quantities to be used elsewhere and was warned to keep contents contained due to red algae. From what I've read, the greatest concern was introducing this to other water sources. As for humans, there seems to be both health benefits as well as major risks. I'm not sure I'd fish there, and definitely wouldn't swim there, although I've seen locals doing both. My advice is find another fishing hole.

Small walk up a hill but not far from the pull off spot. Once at the top it's very pretty and slightly windy.
About Lake Wilma
Nestled in the serene landscapes of Greene County, Lake Wilma offers a potential getaway, with views promising tranquility for those seeking a nature experience without necessarily diving into its waters. Owned by CNX Resources, the lake is currently experiencing a temporary closure for fishing, particularly the anticipated trout season, due to ongoing operations and environmental precautions. Visitors should be aware of the presence of red algae, which necessitates caution due to its possible health implications, both positive and negative, as noted in various reports. While the lake itself is restricted for activities like swimming, which is strictly prohibited, the area still holds allure for those who enjoy a quiet walk or a picturesque lookout point. A short uphill walk leads you to vistas that, despite operational constraints, still capture the classic charm of a lakeside environment with breezy winds enhancing the backdrop. For adventurers or anglers, seeking alternatives in the vicinity might be advisable considering the current constraints at Lake Wilma. The local authorities maintain a strict vigil on activities like swimming, so adherence to rules is essential to avoid penalties. Thus, while Lake Wilma’s natural beauty remains intact, its current state suggests it as more of a peaceful observation retreat rather than a hub for water-based recreation.
