After taking in the expanse of the lake and beauty of the area, the free electric car charger was the next thing we noticed! We were headed to the paddleboat rental area. Unfortunately, the rental building was closed when we visited. The parking lot is huge and several RVs were parked there and a few people were putting their own boat in the water. Memorial weekend, will probably open the beach and paddleboat rental season. The outside of the rental building did have Shawnee Lake maps and we looked for a trail close by. We chose the Lakeside Trail. The trail was paved and led us up a small grade, past a picnic pavilion; at the top we gasped at the view of the lake and a sandy beach. Continuing onward we came to a playground, a concession building with restrooms and the beach. To the right was a volley ball area. We even saw some geese! The beach is accessible to those in wheelchairs too! Everything looked new/well taken care of! Accessible parking was available behind the building. Taking a quick jaunt up another path showed us quite a diversity of trees and plants. We were not bothered by any insects, which pleased me very much!! I think we found a new place to go walking! There are so many trails and other things to do at the park. You can reserve pavilions. Grills are located throughout the park. Camping is also available. Boating and fishing are big attractions. They even give free programs, on topics such as biomimicry, hawks and owls, covered bridges of Bedford County, fibonacci and more! Shawnee State Park is definitely a place to keep visiting.

A true sanctuary. Beautiful. Family oasis. A great place for couples to enjoy the serenity and get away from the hustles of life. They designed the beach, water entry and parking to accommodate wheelchairs and fit the special needs of navigating a beach one may have.

I went there a few times wen I was a kid with my family. I always remembered the name of the lake and there’s a few vivid memories I have of the times I spent there. so It must of had some kind of influence on me. The problem is I am not sure if those influences were were positive or negative but there’s a reason for the memories. I need to return there now, as an adult, and figure it out.
