This recreational area in the Apalachicola National Forest is officially called Trout Pond GF&A Trailhead. The Trout Pond part is a picnic area with a small fishing pier. The GF&A Trailhead is a rails to trails project that is very short due to opposition from people in the immediate area. Part of this wide paved trail passes through a long leaf pine and wiregrass environment that is being restored to its natural state. The other part runs parallel to Springhill Rd and was in the past the Georgia Florida and Alabama railroad. The trail is only 2.5 miles but it's still quite picturesque. It can be used for cycling, walking, jogging or taking your dog for a walk. It is nice in part because it is not well utilized. It is not uncommon to have the entire trail to yourself. There are bathrooms, potable water, picnic tables and ample parking. Hopefully this trail will eventually be continued down to Carrabelle and be similar to the nearby Saint Marks bike trail.

Someone killed an alligator that was stinking up the whole place. Trash every where and fishing bobers and line every where. Can tell no one goes there and cleans up

This place hasn't been kept up, I took my puppy down there and I have to say it freaked both of us out! Fresh bear poop everywhere.
