Powell Lake is great for paddle boarding, kayaking, sailing, boating, jet skiing and fishing. Many put their fishing kayaks in on the beach side of the bridge after crossing over from the Destin end. There is plenty of room to drive down to put in and park.. although not paved.. Fishing is very good in the coves on the north end of the lake and in the deep waters near the mouth of the enclosed inlet. Expect nice Red fish in season. Keep in mind that waters are exchanged periodically from the ocean, so sharks and other ocean goers are not uncommon in the lake. Also boaters should note that the areas with grasses are often very shallow.

Lake Powell is a great quiet place to go kayaking. The kids and dogs love running in the shallows on the south end by the beach.

Google Maps has the wrong name. It is actually called Lake Powell, not Powell Lake. One of the most beautiful places in Bay County.
About Powell Lake
Discover the serene hidden gem of Lake Powell, nestled along the scenic coast of Florida's Panhandle in Bay County. This breathtaking lake is not only a stunning natural landscape but also boasts a vibrant hub for water enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Separated from the Gulf of Mexico by a narrow strip of beach, Lake Powell offers a unique mix of freshwater and saltwater environments, making it a premier destination for a variety of recreational activities. Perfect for paddle boarding, kayaking, sailing, and boating, the lake invites adventure on its tranquil waters. Jet skiing and fishing also add to the excitement, with the promise of catching species like redfish in its coves and deep areas. While enjoying the lake's serenity, visitors should remain cautious of the occasional ocean visitors such as sharks due to the tidal exchanges with the Gulf. Families and dog owners find joy on the southern shores, where children and pets can frolic in the shallow waters, and a boat ramp accommodates small to medium boats, making Lake Powell accessible for all. The area is not paved, but it offers ample space to prepare for a day on the water. Despite its charms often being overlooked due to a naming error on digital maps (it's Lake Powell, not Powell Lake), this lake represents one of the most picturesque spots in Bay County. So, pack your fishing gear or paddle, and head to this beautiful convergence of lake and beach for a memorable day amidst Florida's natural beauty.
