One of my favorite places. Been going here for 25 years, well before the Florida trail came through. I always visit when I hunt deer inside of Camp Blanding. This was a segregated park for African Americans built in the 50's and closed in the 70's. You very rarely see any humans here. The Florida trail association did a great job rebuilding the pavilion. I like to eat a picnic on the table and afterwrds string up my hammock and enjoy a nice breeze blowing through the southern moss hanging from the surrounding live oaks. The property is dotted with leaf covered concrete slabs that were once the cabins. The old rest room structure remains, roof caving in,, as a reminder of the past. Two old barrakaded delapeteted docks remain. There is a boat ramp further down the road that is open when campblanding is open to hunting. The lake is full of fish and rarely has any fishing pressure. There are bald eagles and gators. Peaceful is the one word I would use to describe this place.
