We had a wonderful time camping. The lake is beautiful and it was pretty quiet for a weekend. Enjoyed hikes during day and night hikes to find animals. Took family with my boys 10 and 11. They had a blast. I loved camping here. Bathrooms were really clean too and super hot water for showers!

Adventure Large mouth Bass. Hurricane Lake North Campground is located within the Hurricane Lake Recreation Area, in the Blackwater River State Forest (Okaloosa County), about 1-hour northeast of Pensacola, FL. The name sounds scary but so far from it. Blackwater River State Forest is the largest state forest in Florida, with over 210,000 acres of woodlands, lakes, and streams perfect for tubing, canoeing, fishing and so much more. The facilities is clean well kept with 18 sites with a mixture of electric for RVs, campvan and tents, clean showers and toilets. Well worth a visit for a quick getaway. For me the first large mouth bass caught and released ( ticked off my fishing list).( reference: nearby attraction)

About Hurricane Lake
Hidden away in the expansive Blackwater River State Forest, just an hour’s drive from the sandy beaches of Pensacola, lies Hurricane Lake. Despite its tempestuous name, the lake offers nothing but serenity and is a haven for campers and nature enthusiasts alike. The Hurricane Lake Recreation Area is part of the largest state forest in Florida, providing an extensive natural playground across 210,000 acres of diverse woodland and waterways. The campsite, Hurricane Lake North Campground, features 18 sites that cater to both RV and tent campers, complete with electric hookups, clean showers with hot water, and spotless restrooms—a comfort that often comes as a surprise to those used to roughing it. The quietude of the area makes it an ideal spot for family trips. Visitors can enjoy miles of trails for hiking and night-time exploration, where children (and adults!) might spot wildlife in their natural habitat. While some reviews hinted that the fishing might not meet an angler's expectations—possibly due to the lake being overfished—it offers alternatives like tubing and canoeing across its calm waters. The scenic beauty, peaceful atmosphere, and well-maintained facilities make Hurricane Lake not just a location, but a memory waiting to happen.
