Overgrown with reeds, so you can't see the water from any angle.

Lived down the street for a few years with family and loved this place. Dishwasher pond is overgrown now but used to be a great little fishing spot for bluegill, bass and catfish but the reeds have overgrown. Would be nice if the community could get together and help clean it out . I’d he glad to help. But I come back from time to time as an adult now and take my dog and still love the trails. Small but great for a short walk. Pretty sure I’ve seen a California weasel once there too I think but it was just a glimpse. Had me wondering the entire day.

The hike here is called Shepherds Canyon, and it is a great Suburban hike of around 3 miles in length in Tierrasanta. Birding is usually good. We have seen Cedar Wax wings, American goldfinch, California Thrasher, and even a red-shouldered hawk down there. We have even seen deer on a couple of occasions. They reside on the island in the middle of the Lagoon
About Dishwasher Pond
Nestled within the charming suburban enclave of Tierrasanta, Dishwasher Pond is a small, nearly hidden natural gem beloved by locals for its tranquil trails and surprising wildlife encounters. Though the pond itself is currently overgrown with reeds, obscuring clear views of the water, it remains a cherished spot for short, leisurely strolls. Its surrounding area, notably dubbed Shepherds Canyon, offers a pleasant 3-mile suburban hiking trail teeming with flora and fauna. Birdwatchers revel in sightings of various species, including Cedar Waxwings, American Goldfinches, and even occasional hawks. The pond's history is as colorful as its wildlife, with local lore suggesting that its quirky name stems from a time when, sadly, household appliances were carelessly dumped in its dried-up lakebed. Despite current challenges, like the overpowering growth of reeds and the tales of yesteryears, Dishwasher Pond persists as a nostalgic reminder of simpler days and a community's quiet escape into nature.
