Now that the algae is gone, the lake is absolutely clear and beautiful. The water is truly clean enough to drink. Excellent lodging is around $79 per night. I also love the dining downtown. We rented E-Bikes and spent the weekend trail riding and picnicking. Just a beautiful place to watch the stars. Bonfires on the shore every night in the summer too.

It's the largest natural lake in California measuring 64 square miles and one of the Top Bass fishing lakes in the Northwest. Most of the lake is 30 feet deep, but there's a small area on the big end that is 60 feet deep. Surrounded by mountains, the scenery here is always beautiful, especially the sun and moon rises. It also ranks in the top ten places with the cleanest air in California. The mountains were formed eons ago by the resident volcano, which is classified as a "high threat" still (yikes!), and Konocti mountain towers over the lake like and old watch guard. The lake arose from a landslide a couple million years back, blocking the flow of water through the valley. The area around the lake boasts numerous vineyards and wineries, all of which, that I've tried, have been wonderful. Brassfield winery is a definite "must visit" if you're in the area. The downside to Clear Lake are the green algea blooms in the heat of the summer that can be unappealing, inhibit swimming, and, at times, be a somewhat smelly down by the water. All in all, though, I've loved living here. It's quiet and the folks in Kelseyville and Lakeport are super friendly. Clearlake, the city, can have some riff-raff, so I would avoid it.

Amazing place for camping and fishing. Rv access is paved and plenty of room. The weather at the first months of the year is a little chilly but midday is very nice and comfortable. Plan ahead to find the best spots Braitos buckingham marina offers all kind of options for quick trip into the lake or for tournaments when in season. Highly recommended.
