Located just a few miles away from california’s happy place on earth, the Disney land, this basin completed in 1938 is an eyesore. Dirty, algae and totally polluted. This basin has also become an illegal dumping ground. If the authorities don’t act fast this basin may pose major threat for the environment and also may end up a place for mosquitoes to breed.

Just got into fishing. Hard spot to access, forbidden by law to enter (fenced in). Looks like there’s crazy wildlife! But wasn’t really able to fish there had to hop the fence to get in. Sloped ground on the left hand side. Try the Right hand side if going. Pretty scary spot to be in not only cause you’re trespassing but if you’re there alone careful.
About West Street Basin
Nestled in close proximity to the exciting whirl of Southern California's amusement hub, West Street Basin offers a peek into nature's resilience amidst human encroachment. Although initially designed in 1938 as a utilitarian structure, it has inadvertently become a patchy sanctuary for wildlife. While some visitors might consider it an eyesore, with visible pollution and algae growth, others find a curious charm in its persistence as a natural habitat. Unfortunately, the basin has suffered over the years from illegal dumping, raising environmental concerns and calling for immediate action from local authorities. Access to the basin is controversially limited, with fencing surrounding much of its perimeter, legally barring visitors from casually venturing in. However, fishing enthusiasts have been known to find ways to experience the basin’s aquatic offerings. Those who dare to hop the fence for a closer look often recommend cautious exploration due to the treacherous slopes and secluded feel of the area. The restricted access and environmental condition make it imperative to understand that fishing here is strictly catch and release. Despite its challenges, West Street Basin stands as an intriguing study of natural beauty fighting to emerge from beneath a layer of neglect. For those adventurous enough to explore its edges (safely and legally), there's an opportunity to witness the unexpected flourishing of life where it might seem improbable. This basin speaks more to environmental lessons learned and the ongoing battle between natural beauty and urban development.
