I have been to this lake many times as I lived in Valley Center for years, and this place is beautiful but has an eerie feel to it. Because this lake is more secluded and there aren't too many visitors, honestly this place feels like somewhere you could visit and disappear at (I know, creepy right?). I've come across really mean, sketchy people around here that don't like visitors so honestly I do not recommend this place. The stars are beautiful at night because of less lights, but again, feels dangerous people-wise as well as animals like coyotes and mountain lions.

On April 21, 2018 I fished Lake Wohlford for the first time. We arrived early (5:15 am) in order to reserve a boat, bass boats go quick so don't be late! The gates opened at 6:00 am and we were on the water within 20 minutes. For an early April morning, I definitely recommend wearing layers, it's quite chilly. By mid-late morning, the sun is warm enough for you to shed your sweatshirt/jacket. The day before we fished, they stocked trout (not sure if they stocked bass too). We caught 6 very good sized trout, had about 10 good bites in total. My brother-in-law took a bass boat and landed 16 lunkers. The lake itself is not massive. It's very easy to cover the whole lake over the course of the day. We fished until about 4:30 pm and got some sun. Pack sunscreen, snacks and water. The staff/rangers were very friendly. We will definitely be back.

About Lake Wohlford
Nestled just outside the quaint town of Valley Center, Lake Wohlford offers a unique and intimate experience for those willing to venture into its serene yet slightly eerie environs. While the lake is not vast, its natural beauty and excellent fishing opportunities are a significant draw, particularly for those who love trout and bass fishing. Early risers will find the breathtaking views, mirrored by the placid waters, well worth the trip. The lake is renowned for its well-stocked waters, where anglers can often haul in impressive catches of rainbow trout and bass, especially after stocking days. Though the surroundings can feel a bit secluded and visitors might encounter local wildlife such as coyotes and mountain lions, the experience of casting a line under the whispering breeze, amidst chirping crickets and the occasional call of a bird, is a tranquil escape from daily hustle. However, caution is advised as some visitors have noted feeling uneasy due to the remoteness and occasional encounters with unfriendly locals. Despite these concerns, those who go prepared—with layers for the chilly mornings, sunscreen for the warming afternoons, and a willingness to immerse themselves in nature—will find Lake Wohlford a worthwhile adventure.
