This COULD be a really nice park. We're new to fishing community lakes and we happened to be in the area around 5pm, so we decided to check it out despite the bad reviews. Yeah, the reviews are still accurate. Lots of trash in the pond. Fished for about an hour, saw multiple people fishing as well. Caught 2 plastic bags. Other fishermen were catching garbage as well, but no fish. It's supposed to be stocked with trout today, but I sure wouldn't eat anything I caught out of here. I don't know how often the city cleans this place, but it needs to be more often and it needs to be dredged. They seem to flood irrigate the grass, so any fertilizer is going to end up in the pond as well.

3 acres of park \ lake residential fishing (it's stocked)(must have license), lots of ducks & geese; has an island can walk into over bridge with rock sculpture & stream that runs out into lake. Has basketball court, tennis court, 2 baseball diamonds, & awesome playground - all have seating around to watch play. Restrooms are between baseball diamonds. Lots of room for everyone, sidewalks to walk or ride bicycle, also can walk or ride down next to canal. Is awesome at sunrise. I love taking pics of sunrise & ducks at play.

About Cortez Lake
Nestled in the city landscape, Cortez Lake is a small 3-acre jewel with loads of potential, surrounded by verdant parkland complete with playgrounds and sports facilities. This community lake, however, faces significant challenges with maintenance and upkeep. Though meant to be a fishing haven stocked with trout, visitors frequently report encountering extensive litter, floating debris, and even signs of environmental decline like dead wildlife and high pollution levels. Despite these issues, the park offers a scenic retreat for early-morning nature lovers, with beautiful sunrises and quacking ducks adding charm to the otherwise calm atmosphere. An island accessible by a bridge adds to the allure, complemented by a rock sculpture and a stream. However, improvements in cleaning efforts and city support could transform Cortez Lake into a safe and delightful community spot for families and fishing enthusiasts alike.
