Beautiful place during the winter season. Nice open area to walk and enjoy the lake.

We went for the Holiday Lights on the Lake... the walk-thru part was awesome...that it was free was even better. So many displays and so pretty with quite a few activities/meet and greets/photo-ops a plenty. The drive-thru displays while nice enough, there weren't very many and they were set back far from the road...that was a bit of a let down. Parking for the walk-thru area was a good ways to have to walk to get to the event for older, less mobile people to...wish that could be resolved but still a very well done event.

Great hang out spot for picnic, fishing, bicycle riding.... There's a 2$ charge for parking before u entered, strongly suggest to bring cash. Lots of space, nice walk, u can pay inside the park for kayaking, bicycle riding.

During my visit, the area was well maintained. I went there to photograph the sunrise 🌄. The morning was cold and the lake was filled with lots of many ducks and bird related species. In addition, people were already set in place around the lake and getting their fishing gear ready for the tournament. When the sun began to rise, other persons joined the competition with their small paddle boats. Overall, I left very pleased. I didn't catch any fish, but I did get lots of beautiful compositions.

The lake is great for the desert climate in El Paso. It's great to have a place where you can go to exercise, fish, and hangout. The addition of lights on the lake makes ascarate lake a year round place to go.
