Hopkins Prairie is accessible from two locations. The entrance using FR 33 is Very Narrow and will probably scratch your vehicle if you are larger than a Jeep. In fact, there are a couple of areas on the road where two large trees may cause You to back out or turn around. The second entrance, using FR 50 is slightly less narrow. Most any Four Wheel Drive Vehicle Should be able to navigate FR50 with few challenges. When you have made it to the open prairie You will be So Excited. It is a Beautiful location. You can bring a picnic and insect repellent and Enjoy a Peaceful Day. You are allowed to disburse overnight camp. There is no fee for the open area. They do offer an overnight Campground area close by for a nominal fee. Great spot. Not crowded when we went. Beautiful sunset and plenty of peace and quiet. We only heard people on other sites 2 times. Saw wild turkeys and deer driving in/out. Surprisingly, no critters tried to scavenge at our site during the night. Camp host was nice and reasonable. Ticks were really bad. My husband, dog, and I had around 20 ticks total and we were there for 1 night.

I love it there! You’ll hate it! Don’t go! 1 voluted toilet, hand pump water and No electricity. Really Dark at night and quiet! There is a possibility of bears 🐻 and other wildlife.

Gorgeous place, you don't feel like your in Florida when you look out on the water at all the different birds and vegetation. The kayakers were plentiful out there. We got there after dark, seemed like in the morning we may have parked on a canoe/kayak loading spot. Oops. Glad that didn't cause a problem.

The wilderness sorrounds you, being part of the Ocala National Forest. Bring your Jeep or off road vehicle, and it only gets better.
