Driving the road up to Lobdell Lake in the Fall as the trees are changing colors is absolutely beautiful. It is about 5 miles of dirt road to reach the birch trees and they were fantastic in the Fall of 2023.

Lobdell Lake was created as a reservoir east of the 395 near the Sonora Pass junction. The road to the lake is dirt and not too rough although you need to ford several streams which is not bad in the fall. The lake itself is so low, perhaps one eighth of what it should be, very sad! Too small now to fish with float tubes but dishing off the shore was ok. Lots of algae with it being so shallow.

Drove up there with my wife over 25 years ago. Lake was full and the DFG planted artic grayling in the lake. I didn't catch any grayling but the trout were spawning up stream out of the lake. It was quite a sight to see. I heard the Earthen dam broke some years ago. I don't think the DFG will be planting grayling in the lake. Saw a few bears and a herd of about 15 deer on the way up there. Great little adventure.
