Apparently it's a great place for people to get away and take a little smoke break. Where one can admire the beauty of the lake and enjoy some good old fashioned mother nature in one of the several turn-outs up Hicks Road. If you want to go fishing or just want to check out the lake up close, many of these turn-outs grant access to the lake below if you cross the street and simply locate where their trail starts. Although if you do dare follow one down, be careful as these paths were basically first created by animals who have a 4 legs and have evolved and are expert climbers. Just be warned some trails are steep and slippery. I personally go there for several reasons. To get away from all the concrete and cars, relax and play some loud music away from town where it might bother some Karen who'll call the cops. haha. I also live 10 minutes away so it's a great spot for me to take my RC boats and rock crawlers. As long as you keep everything electric, no gas or nitro powered RC anything, then the Sheriff and Park Rangers don't seem to mind and when I'm crawling my RC truck on the roadside rocks, they actually wave to me when cruzin' by. So, no worries. I love it! Although if you go up Hicks Road to the top It's a whole different story. Mt. Uminum is up there and it's like there prized possession. lol. Once at the stop sign at top of Hicks turn right and when you're on that road you better be on your best behavior, don't let the view distract you while driving the narrow road and heaven forbid that you pull over in ANY turn-out up there unless it is specifically posted as ok to park in. Don't be fooled... even if there's a huge shoulder on side of road with incredible views and room for 4 cars to park, dont do it. It's a bust. I'm serious. The Rangers will stop to tell you that you're a bad person and to let you know it's not allowed. So move it along already tisk, tisk... cuz you should just automatically know the rules. Right?

Use to run up to Guadalupe lake from LHS, go past on the way to SNOw up at the radar station before school...fill the back of my 47 Jeep & head to LHS to throw snowballs @ classmates with my bud Steve j.....best trip up was in my 73 Blazer, above the dam, little trail we skinnied up to a place I thought would be It! Blazer was twisted left low, rt. high, got others out and powered up..... Blazer stood on it's rear tires with the fronts about 6' off the ground...scared hell out of me but she made it easy ..everyone dug it... sadly no camera! Damn!! Don't drive up, walk it's safer...I was crazy in those days, not now...thank you Lord!

This is by far the most polluted body of water I have seen in the bay area. I have been going fishing here to 20 years because I lived close by. There is so much trash along the shores and floating in the water its unbelievable. In my last trip alone I saw in the water car tires, a car battery, an entire cars, every type of plastic bottle, a floating propane tank, Styrofoam, clothes, shoes, spray paint cans, glass, construction material, beer cans, and many more types of materials. I have never seen this reservoir cleaned up. Its a complete eye sore. Decent fishing.

I grew up here in the 1960s thru 70s. This is where we all learned how to swim. I went to Steindorf Elementary on Ross Avenue. So many memories here.
