Vail lake is closed for recreational access in the winter but the trails around it are open . I took my dogs on a nice walk on one of the trails that goes around the lake. you do have to pay $5 to park in the RV park but that’s ok. there are really nice mountain biking trails all around the exterior of the property . we saw lots of cool birds on our hike ! be sure to bring some water because it’s hot !

We came here for a walk/hike when visiting California in October. Very beautiful place. There was a small fee to enter. We didn’t camp or fish or anything, just walked the trail. Varied from flat to rocky areas.

We hiked there on 5/28/23, from the KOA campground. It’s a beautiful hike for the spring, tons of wildflowers and a nice paved road the whole way. However, I could imagine it would be pretty hot and dry later in the year. Also, this was a very good rain year, so there may not be as many wild flowers on drier years? Oh we also saw a few different types of snakes on the road on the way there and back! Really good for biking to as well. The lake itself… meh… we didn’t walk around it at all, but it seemed to have wildlife and water foul around it. Can’t go in and no boating allowed but shore fishing with license seems to be allowed. It’s more about the journey than the destination on this one 😆😆
