Cute little spot, more of a pond than a lake. Pretty and private area. Lake is very muddy, easy to walk or bike to. Dogs enjoyed it but definitely need a bath now. Lake does resemble the shape of a potato lol

It's a quick .25 mile, 10min walk from the parking area to the lake. The lake is really more of a puddle but it's incredibly peaceful. It's ringed with clover and the steep hills surrounding it make it feel really isolated. There's a beautiful green valley leading the way to the lake making the short walk very enjoyable.

A great little escape! We visited in January, so no crawfish! We did hear some elk! Trail is easy to walk flat and wide. The dirt roads to the lake are passable by a sedan or 2WD vehicle. Roads were maintained with little to no potholes or washboards. The lake was mostly frozen and we even found a carcass of a deer. Quiet and beautiful. I would recommend leaving enough time to sit back and enjoy the serenity. Even in January the sun was warm, making it difficult to want to leave! Our dogs loved the adventure, as we did too! We encountered a few people on razors while on the main dirt roads. There are well marked signs to direct you to the lake. Limited to no cell service, which is a huge bonus!! This is such a great place that allows you to unplug and enjoy nature. We had the lake to ourselves- and of course the elk nearby. I was impressed that it seems everyone packs out what they bring in-- little to no litter. No camping allowed at the lake no motorized vehicles for the last 1/4 mile. There is a good parking area at the trailhead. I can't wait to return, and maybe catch some crawfish!

Well we were headed to crystal canyon reservoir only to find out it was closed! So instead we went to potato lake. More of a pond but it was still great. We are from Colorado and there is an abundance of mountain lakes, but not AZ. We had to hike 3/4 of a mile to get there but it was worth it. I don’t think there are many fish but oh man is there a ton of crawdads. They should rename it crawdad lake. I’ve never caught a crawdad on a fishing pole until I ventured to potato lake!

Fun little lake requiring a short walk. There were no fish, but the kids enjoyed skipping rocks and looking at the different wildlife. The road up was in good condition (4/2018) and there was still very little traffic.
