I recently had the opportunity to visit Stoneman Lake, and while I was initially disappointed to find that the lake itself was dried up, I quickly realized that there was still plenty to see and do. The drive to the lake was absolutely beautiful, with stunning views of the surrounding forest and mountains. The scenery alone made the trip worth it. Once we arrived at the lake, we were able to take a leisurely stroll around the area and take in the sights. Despite the lack of water, the lake bed was still an interesting and unique feature, and the surrounding forest was absolutely beautiful. We even spotted a few wildlife, including some birds and a couple of small animals. Overall, I would definitely recommend a visit to Stoneman Lake, even if the lake itself is dry. The drive to the lake alone is worth it, and the surrounding area is simply breathtaking. It's a great place to get away from it all and just enjoy the beauty of nature. So, I would give it a 4-star rating.

No water, but that is ok. Just imagine it is named Stoneman Nice Place to Hang Out and Camp. It would be a nice stop to incorporate in a Phoenix/Flagstaff road trip and camping excursion that could also include Meteor Crater, Grand Canyon, and fishing or boating on the Verde River. There were lots of mosquitos when I was there, but that was summer after the monsoon rains. I am sure they go away a bit when then nights get colder later in the season. There are a ton of places to camp dispersed style, which means find an existing pull-off spot, don't make a mess, observe any fire regulations, and pack your trash out. I did not check out the official camping area, but I did stop at the restroom that overlooks the lake area. No sink, just a toilet with an amazing view. If no one is around, leave the door propped wide open and enjoy nature as you go about your business. Make sure to pull over and hike a bit from the road. You get a really nice sort of back in nature vibe that usually comes at the end of a two hour, not two minute, hike.

There’s water in the lake now. It’s not full, but more full than I’ve seen it in years.

One of the most serene locations in Arizona. For the first time in many years, during a scouting trip for the upcoming hunting season, it was full of water. Great spot for bird watching, and picnics.
